Nov 12, 2025

Meet Tyler, a dedicated NYSC Assistant General Manager at Rego Park whose passion for fitness has taken him from home workouts in high school to the professional bodybuilding stage. From overcoming challenges to earning his Pro Card with the OCB, his journey is a true testament to discipline, community, and perseverance. Read more about Tyler's competition journey, what drives him, and how his NYSC family has supported him along the way.

Please tell us a little about your fitness journey.
I started working out at home in high school. I was doing the basic at-home teenager workouts – push-ups, sit-ups, dumbbell curls. I started getting bullied at school and wanted to put on a little size to deter that. At the same time, I started shooting competitive archery and I needed to start building muscle for that as well. Once I finished college and my competitive archery career, I got a job in fitness in 2018 and have been in the fitness service industry ever since. Just last year I competed in my first bodybuilding competition with the OCB and have since qualified, competed, and placed in the pro division. My next competition is coming up soon on November 22nd.

You just competed in the OCB World Championships. Can you tell us about this competition?
I had the honor of competing in the 20th OCB Yorton Cup World Championship on September 27th. Going into the show, I felt I was ready to win as I had pushed myself harder than I’d ever pushed myself in my entire life. I got myself leaner than ever and had prepped for 12 straight weeks. I ended up finishing in the Top 10 and impressing one of the promoters of the company so much that he asked me to come to his show to compete in November. I’m ready to get back on the stage!

How did you first start competing?
I wanted to challenge myself to do something different, something scary, and something new that I’d never believed I could ever do. One of my co-workers was preparing to start bodybuilding himself and suggested I do one of the local amateur OCB competitions. I made the commitment in my mind and said to myself, “I’m gonna do this. Even if it’s only one time and I look stupid, I’m gonna be able to say I did it”. I competed in Atlantic City with no coach, no prep advisor, and I ended up placing 3rd overall. I saw that there was another competition 6 months later in Brooklyn – down the street from where I grew up – and I took those 6 months to get as good as possible and I ended up winning my Pro Card there.

What's your favorite part about competing?
Competing on that stage is the biggest adrenaline rush I’ve ever felt. It is completely freeing to be up there. It is the closest to being a real life superhero that there is. Even though you are up there with the other competitors, it feels like it is just you and nothing else.

To prep for these competitions, you often need coaches to help with posing and workout routines. How have you leaned on your NYSC community for this?
I am completely blessed to be surrounded by great colleagues who support me and who possess the knowledge to help me get to where I am today. I have the honor of working with great trainers like Zack Clark, who is a Top 10 trainer in the company, and Shereen Samara, who is incredibly well-versed in exercise science + nutrition. Zack was in Rochester, NY, the day before the Yorton Cup and flew down to Charlotte the morning of the show. I never had to ask Shereen for help or advice on dieting, she went ahead and offered to help and to this day has never once asked for a dollar in payment. These are great trainers, these are smart experts, but even more so, these are good human beings and they are blessings in my life.

How do you stay motivated to stick with your routine when you’re prepping for a competition?
I’m not always motivated, but I know it is part of the job and I’ve got to get up and do it. I love snacks, I love going out with friends, I love having a Friday night drink with the boys, but I’ve got goals to hit. And as much as I love all of those things, I love reaching my potential, giving my all, and winning so much more! I am very self-motivated and I train hard and try to be stronger both physically and mentally than I've been before.

I am also motivated by wanting to please God and fulfill my calling. I feel that where I am now is a result of God's plan and everything is leading to where I am now. It is now my job to commit and perform my duties as a professional and put in everything to be the best that I possibly can be.

What have you learned from competing on a big stage?
You cannot control the competition around you, so make sure that you show up ready to compete to the best of your ability. There is always room for improvement. As well as I feel I’ve done and as great as the prep has gone, there are always things I can do better. Even if I doubt my training, I remind myself – I belong here!

What advice do you have for anyone looking to start competing?
You will be scared! There is no way to get around that for your first competition. Everyone is nervous but if you put the hard work in, if you are committed to doing your best, and if you don’t take anything lightly during preparation, you will have a great time out there!

Do you have any more competitions coming up?
I am competing in the OCB Battle Of The Godz show on November 22nd in Providence, RI. I am still looking for my first Pro podium and first Pro paycheck. I feel like I could be in the Top 2 out there – and I’m not looking to be in 2nd place!

Anything else you’d like to share?
I want to say thank you to all of my co-workers here who have been incredibly supportive and helpful with my bodybuilding career. Michael Garcia, Raymond Degenarro, Vinny Cofield, Randy Ramos, William Moon, and Greg Carter – they were all incredibly helpful and supportive throughout my prep periods. I also have to thank my wife, son, and my entire family for supporting me as well.
